Australia has kept its chances of qualifying for the semifinals of the the WorldT20 alive, with a scrappy, but effective three-wicket win over Bangladesh.

Australia made one change to its side that suffered an eight run loss to New Zealand, with John Hastings replacing Ashton Agar.

The Tigers were sent into bat, scoring 5-156, before the Aussies chased down the target with nine balls to spare and three wickets in hand.

Usman Khawaja was the difference between the two sides with the bat, scoring an important 58 from 45 balls, while young leg spinner Adam Zampa put in a man of the match performance finishing with figures of 3-23 from four overs.

Bangladesh looked set to give Australia a miserly total to chase, however, a blistering 49 from 29 balls from Mahmudullah helped the No.10 ranked Twenty20 nation in the world score 52 runs off the final five overs to reach a competitive total.

Watson (21) and Khawaja then got Australia off another flyer, reaching 62 off the opening seven overs, before the run rate once again slowed and wickets flowed in the middle order. Smith (14), Warner (17) and Maxwell (26) all made starts, while Mitch Marsh (6) and Hastings (3) fell cheaply.

However Australia was always in control, as Faulkner and Nevill completed the run chase in the penultimate over.

The Aussies' next match is against Pakistan in Mohali at 8.30pm AEDT.
