Following the past fortnight which has been filled with stories surrounding incidents and broken relationships inside the Australian Cricket team, the man at the centre of everything, Michael Clarke, has given those affected some advice.
The former Test captain has asked for ex-teammates to find the context behind all of the stories, telling them to read his book before making judgements.
Simon Katich, Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson have all had words to say about Clarke over the past couple of weeks, but Clarke's message is quite simple in return.
“I just hope that the players or the people that are involved or that I speak about, that if they read the page before or the page after, that will put some context around it so they’ll understand a lot more,” Clarke told Nova 100.
“It’s a headline because it’s going to sell the newspaper. It doesn’t actually say what was written in my book, it takes out a one liner and that sells a paper.
“For me, the respect will never change. I have the utmost respect for every single player who I have been lucky enough to play with.
“Again, you understand in a leadership role whether it’s sport, business, life, whatever it is, you need to make tough calls as a leader.
“Sometimes those calls, people are going to like that, certain teammates are going to like that because it’s going to help them grow or enhance their performance.
“And some teammates aren’t. So I’ve never hid behind making those tough decisions and being accountable for that.”
