Otago Country skipper Fraser Wilson remained at the crease for 119 deliveries as he looked to save his side from defeat against Southland in a Hawke Zone Cup elimination match, but what was arguably more impressive was his score.

Wilson scored an unbeaten zero from his two hour stay in the middle, as he tried to earn his side a draw, but his effort was agonisingly undone with just three balls remaining in the match.

The captain came in at number eight with his side reeling at 6/99, and Wilson spent the next 126 minutes at the crease fending off every delivery that came his way.

Number nine batsman Tom Myles fell with just under 14 overs to play, as number 10 Sam Blakely was looking to last the remainder of the day alongside the scoreless Watson, but fell with two overs remaining.

Kurt Thompson was the final batsman in for Otago, but he was removed in the final over as Wilson was unable to lead his side to the elusive draw, despite some of the best effort and commitment to a cause we've ever seen.
