Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is currently receiving treatment in hospital after cutting open his knee at training on Thursday afternoon.

It’s understood Starc ran into an object at Hurstville Oval while training with Australian teammates and was assistant to hospital by team doctor John Orchard.

The gash, which just underneath Starc’s left knee, is understood to be significant but at this stage there is no suggestion of any structural damage.

Starc is due to be rested from this month’s one-day tour of South Africa anyway, and fingers will be crossed there are no serious complications and he can hit the ground running for the start of the home summer in Perth on November 3.
