Dad is trying to play it down.

But such is our desperation for a decent legspinner since Shane Warne hung up the baggy green, it is impossible not to get excited about a story like this.

Introducing 10-year-old Thomas Wrigglesworth, the son of a former Victorian state cricketer, who took 5/9 off eight overs with his “looping leggies” in a seniors game on Saturday.

Making the feat all the more impressive, Thomas was bowling legspin for the first time in a match.

Last season, he was a wicketkeeper.

Playing for Sale against Stratford in fourth grade, Thomas had his older and more experienced opponents searching for answers.

“He played his second game in the seniors, and bowling his little loopy leggies he got five wickets,” Thomas’ dad Ian Wrigglesworth told Melbourne’s 3AW.
