Australian limited overs star Glenn Maxwell will play his first game for Victoria in the domestic one-day cup on Wednesday when the state take on Queensland at the Junction Oval.

Returning from national team commitments, and having spent the middle of the summer in the BBL, Maxwell will likely play a number of games for Victoria at the back end of the summer.

Maxwell will miss the Pakistan tour to get married, with Australia naming a 16-man squad for the three ODIs and T20 match against the sub-continent nation on what is Australia's first trip there in 24 years.

His last game for Victoria was on October 23, 2019 - a gap of 853 days.

Maxwell, who whacked 154 not out in the final game of the Melbourne Stars' BBL season, and has since been in good form for the national team during a five-match series against Sri Lanka played in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, will likely manage three games for Victoria in the one-day cup, being Wednesday's clash Queensland, followed by two matches in three days during early March against Tasmania at Blundstone Arena and Western Australia back at Junction Oval.

Victoria then have a pair of Sheffield Shield games against Tasmania and Western Australia to round out the summer, although the schedule could change again.

Victorian coach Chris Rogers told reporters they were "lucky" to have Maxwell back for the clash.

"The form he's in, and we're pushing for the (final) in the one-day competition, so it's a huge bonus for us," Rogers said.

"It'll actually be the first game I've coached for Victoria where he's been playing, we just haven't seen much of him so whenever we do it's a bonus.

"Someone like a Jake Fraser-McGurk or Mackenzie Harvey, who even in the field are exceptional fielders, getting to compete with Maxi that's going to be exciting and a great learning experience for them.

"We're blessed with some of the senior players we have for Victoria and Maxi is one of those as well."

It had been anticipated Aaron Finch would join Maxwell, however, he has been ruled out with a leg injury niggle.
