Due to the security situation in Afghanistan, their national cricket team has been temporarily relocating series upon series to be played in the UAE as part of a working relationship with the ECB (Emirates Cricket Board).

Those negotiations have now been formalised with a deal coming to fruition granting Afghanistan a license to use facilities in the UAE to host touring teams for the duration of five years under one condition.

UAE put pen to paper signing on a requirement to take part in a three-match series against Afghanistan in the shortest format once a year, with both parties in agreement on those terms and conditions.

The ECB will "provide valuable logistic support to the Afghanistan Cricket Board, including visa assistance and office space", an ACB statement said.

As it currently stood Afghanistan were utilising their playing and training surfaces until the long-term deal was reached securing the shared UAE head quarters as their own and providing a level of assurance.

The future tours programme set out by the ICC have penciled in a number of nations travelling abroad to the UAE where Afghanistan will now play host to as part of a lead in series to the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Between January 2023 and September 2023, Afghanistan are due to host Australia for three ODIs, Zimbabwe for a multi-format tour, Pakistan for three ODIs and the West Indies for the same.

Mubashir Usmani, the ECB secretary said of the development: "Both parties, the Emirates Cricket Board and the Afghanistan Cricket Board enjoy long and cordial relations and we are happy to support the ACB in ensuring that they have a home for their cricket.

"We are also thankful to the Afghanistan Cricket Board for agreeing to play a series of T20I matches against UAE Team each year. This will provide our UAE team with invaluable exposure and help in their development."
