Cricket Australia have confirmed that Friday's Big Bash match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Stars has been postponed.

The BBL revealed on Thursday that the Stars currently have 13 players in isolation due to COVID-19, prompting the league to abandon the game.

The Stars have been able to field a side in their past two matches with fill-in players, however growing case numbers have placed greater difficulties on their hopes of playing at Adelaide Oval this week.

Cricket Australia's General Manager of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson said the decision to postpone the Strikers-Stars match had become an obvious choice.

"It has become clear in recent days that, despite the likelihood of players exiting isolation soon, it would not be appropriate for those players to immediately travel to Adelaide and play that night," Dobson said.

"We will continue to work with the Stars to support their players and staff throughout the remainder of the season."

Each BBL side is set to venture to Victoria to form a bubble and attempt to keep the season alive.

Cricket Australia are currently working through a reformed fixture for the conclusion of the BBL|11 season.
