The Hindustan Times has reported that the Australian cricket team were refused a pitch inspection ahead of the third test.

According to the report, Steve Smith wanted to take a look at the pitch during a training session yesterday. What occurred next caused some angst in the Aussie camp.

"The ground staff wasn’t ready to lift the covers, and after some gesturing, only a part was removed to allow Smith a peek" wrote Somshuvra Laha.

"This irked Australia coach Darren Lehmann even further as they were in no mood to leave without getting to see the entire pitch. When the covers were finally lifted, Lehmann and Smith started their assessment from every angle."

This is yet another controversy in an already tense Test series. Both teams have been at each other's throats, meanwhile the pitches being produced have come under heavy scrutiny.

There is yet to be a Test that has gone the full five days, and that trend is likely to continue with the Ranchi wicket favouring the bowlers. Australian's will be hoping Smith gets a long look at the pitch after struggling to score in the second test

Whether anything is loss or gained from this incident, it will be tough Test for the batsmen, as both teams strive hard to take a lead in the series. Due to being the current holder, if Australia win this Test they will reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
