Australia has held onto its world No.1 one-day international ranking, despite suffering a 2-0 series loss to New Zealand and relinquishing the Chappell-Hadlee trophy.

The Black Caps wrapped up the series with a 24-run win in Hamilton on Sunday, with Australia failing to chase down New Zealand's target of 282.

Australia has narrowly remained in top spot, ahead of South Africa and New Zealand, who climbed above India into third as a result of the series win over their Trans-Tasman rivals.

However, the Proteas will overtake the Aussies and move into first spot if they can win both of their remaining ODIs against Sri Lanka. They currently lead the best of five match series 3-0.
