Australia has won its second match of the women's world cup, moving to the top of the standings, with a record breaking run chase over Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka batted first, scoring 9-257, a record score for a women's world cup match, before the Southern Stars chased down the target with six overs remaining and just two wickets down.

They were not the only records broken during the match.

Sri Lankan Chamari Athapaththu (178*), scored an amazing 69 percent of her team's score, hitting the highest ever score against Australia.

Meg Lanning then responded in kind for Australia, with an unbeaten 152 of her own, which was 64 percent of the Aussies' score. Opener Nicole Bolton also chimed with 60 for Australia, while Elysse Perry scored 39 not out.
