Sri Lanka claimed the Warne-Muralidaran Trophy for the first time on Saturday after thrashing an Australia side that continues to have no clue against spin on the subcontinent.

Australia trails two-nil in the three-match series after being bowled out for 183 chasing a victory target of 413.

The 229-run defeat is Australia’s eighth consecutive Test loss in Asia and Sri Lanka’s first Test-series win over Australia since 1999, which was eight years before the trophy was launched.

Dilruwan Perera (6-70) took three of the four wickets to fall in the morning session. The off-spinner has raced to the milestone of 50 wickets in 11 matches, which is a record for a Sri Lankan.

The dead-rubber third Test starts in Colombo on August 13.
