Cricket will be the sport that opens the new Perth Stadium, with confirmation that the fifth Gillette One-Day-International between England and Australia in late January will be played at the venue.
The Perth Scorchers will also play their finals games should they get the rights to host, but regular season BBL07 games will be held at the WACA.
However, the Scorchers will still be the first to play cricket in the new stadium as they play host to the England Lions in a closed Test event on December 11, with a second match to be held with limited invite-only tickets available to friends and family of those who helped with the construction of the stadium.
The match comes a week after the stadium hosts an open day for locals, which saw 110,000 tickets sold within a few hours allowing the public to walk through the stadium and surrounding parkland.
The opening also includes a demonstration of the stadium's audio-visual capabilities as well as the largest in-stadium screens in the southern hemisphere.
Australian Cricket Family members will again get access to an exclusive pre-sale, from 9am Perth time on November 21. General public sales will go on sale on Friday through Ticketmaster. The match is scheduled for an 11.20am local start time – 2.20pm AEDT.
Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said it was a "huge honour" for cricket to open the stadium.
"For Cricket to host the first major sporting event at Perth Stadium is a huge honour for our sport, and given it’s an Australia-England fixture, we are confident that will be able to celebrate history being made with a sold-out stadium," Sutherland said in a statement.
