England's white ball coach Matthew Mott had made a bold statement about Ben Stokes' resurgence at the T20 World Cup.

The superstar has had a lean run of form, but England's new white ball coach is expecting plenty from Stokes at the MCG on Friday evening.

"I think he's bowled some big overs, particularly in the Powerplay," Mott told AAP.

"With the bat, he hasn't come off yet. But his career would suggest that at some point someone's going to pay a price, and hopefully that's Australia."

Stokes played a crucial part as captain during England's wildly successful home Test season, but his T20 performance has been lacking.

The 31-year-old has played five T20 innings since arriving in Australia earlier this month, scoring 41 runs at 10.25, with a top of 17 not out.

Both the teams will be looking to win the match by all means. England faced a shocking loss against Ireland. Similarly, the hosts, Australia have not been able to make a mark in the tournament after losing their opening match to New Zealand.

The clash will be a virual eliminator for both teams. With England sitting at third position with just 2 points and a net run-rate of +0.239, Australia are in an even worse position with a net run rate of -1.555.

Even after the loss to Ireland, Mott is expecting the team to buckle up in their old form.

"You very rarely go through these tournaments undefeated, so I expect us to bounce back really well," he said.

"We're playing against the host, the defending champions, so there's no need for us as a coaching group to motivate the group.

"We're incredibly motivated and (the Ireland result) just adds to that motivation."
