Former Australia representative and current chief selector George Bailey has backed David Warner to get his leadership ban overturned after the announcement of a review into the Cricket Australia code of conduct came last week.
Speaking to reporters in Brisbane after the T20 side's loss to India at the Gabba, Bailey commented on the review and the prospect of Warner being officially reinstated as a leader.
"What I do hope is that it happens in a really timely manner," Bailey said
"The longer that drags out just leads to (more) speculation. I don't think that's helpful for David.
"I think it's a credit to David that a number of people externally who are now saying it's a no-brainer that he should hold a leadership position were, 18 months, two years ago, some of the strongest advocates for him having a life ban.
"It's a credit to David that he has worked on himself.
"Internally I can't speak highly enough of what he brings to the group – as do a number of players."
Warner was initially banned after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, which saw him come up with the idea to sandpaper the ball in an effort to get more movement.
His ban has stood ever since, but with the retirement of Aaron finch from the ODI side, the matter of captaincy has come up again, and Warner would be an obvious candidate to be a leader if he could take up the title.
