The Big Bash League has just two matches remaining, and the second spot in the grand final will go on the line on Wednesday as the Sydney Sixers take on the Adelaide Strikers. This is Zero Wicket’s full guide to the match.

The match is set to be played on Wednesday, January 26 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with the first ball set for 7:25pm (AEDT).

Cricket Australia’s five-team finals series for the Big Bash League has been whittled down to three remaining, with the Perth Scorchers awaiting the winner of this match in the grand final, while the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder have already been knocked out.

This match is known as “The Challenger.”

How did the Sixers and Strikers make the Challenger?

For the Sixers, this is anything but the ideal route to the final.

The Sydney-based team finished the regular season in second place, however, lost their opening match of the finals to the Perth Scorchers. It means they get a second chance, but missed the opportunity to advance straight to the final and pick the venue, as the Scorchers - who won the minor premiership at the end of the regular season - have done.

The Strikers, on the other hand, had a late-season run of form to sneak into the finals and finish in fourth place. From there, they knocked over the Hobart Hurricanes to book a spot against the Sydney Thunder two nights later, which they also won in a tense finish to keep their season alive.
