The Brisbane Heat's Wednesday night's Big Bash clash against the Sydney Sixers has been postponed after the Queensland club recorded 12 positive COVID-19 tests within their playing group.

The Heat were replaced by the Perth Scorchers from Tuesday night's match against the Sixers have an initial outbreak within the side forced Brisbane to be unable to feature in the match.

After the Scorchers and Heat swapped places in the fixture the latter are once again unable to play due to the impacts of the virus.

The league confirmed that as many as 12 members within Brisbane's team have tested positive, with the BBL forced to postpone their match against the Sixers.

It has been revealed that the Heat were unable to find an adequate amount of replacement players for the match to go ahead.

The decision comes amid an expanding battle for the Big Bash to manage the competition through the pandemic, with the Stars and Renegades having also recorded positive cases within their respective camps.

The Renegades revealed on Wednesday that one player had returned a positive reading on their rapid antigen test, with training cancelled as members of staff under PCR testing.

The Stars have seen a majority of their playing grouped sidelined after contracting the virus, with their captain Glenn Maxwell the latest to test positive to the virus.

The Heat's clash with the Sixers was the second half of Wednesday's BBL double-header, with the Adelaide Striker and Hobart Hurricanes still set to play at Adelaide Oval, with a new start time of 7:15pm AEDT.
