The Big Bash League is now the most watched sporting league in Australia.

The BBL has overtaken the NRL and the AFL, which are second and third respectively.

The BBL averaged a nation wide audience of $1.1 million viewers last summer, in what was the sixth season of the tournament.

The NRL currently average 887,600 and the AFL average 804,000 viewers per game.

"It’s amazing. From our point of view it’s extremely pleasing,” Ten's head of sport David Barham told News Ltd.

"As the AFL coaches all say, you just concentrate on the process and don’t worry about the result and I think that’s what we’ve done.

"It’s a great credit to our commentary team and it’s just a combination thing between good TV production, solid marketing and a great sporting body working with us. It’s made a massive difference.”
