Australian and Victorian quick John Hastings has suffered a minor setback ahead of the JLT One-Day Cup.

After injuring his ankle while playing for Worcestershire in August, Hastings had recovered from the injury and was ready to go in Victoria's start to the summer before injuring his back while bowling in the nets in Melbourne.

Uncapped youngster Xavier Crone will replace Hastings in the Bushrangers squad with the experienced paceman expected to miss the early stages of the tournament.

"John unfortunately injured his back while bowling during training in the MCG nets last Friday,” Victorian physio Nick Adcock told reporters.

"John had only recently returned from an ankle injury so naturally this a slight setback for him.

"We'll manage his treatment over the next couple of weeks and remain hopeful he’ll be able to return to the JLT One-Day Cup squad and make a big impact in the matches in Sydney."

The 31-year-old was named captain of the Melbourne Stars for the upcoming Big Bash League commencing in December.
