Blackcaps pacer Trent Boult has made a seismic shift towards joining the rich ranks of the UAE's upstart T20 tournament following his success in securing a release from his contract with the New Zealand Cricket Board.

Boult, 33, has played a leading role in Kiwi tours since making his Test debut against Australia in 2011, however, with the rigours of living out of a suitcase finally starting to wear thin, the Mount Maunganui native has expressed a desire to spend more of his summers at home with family.

Currently on the ground in the Caribbean ahead of New Zealand's white-ball tour of the West Indies, Boult appears set to play a role within Gary Stead's squad until the cessation of the upcoming T20 World Cup on Australian shores later this year.

While the left-armer is yet to express a specific desire to chase the riches available to international talents in Asia, Boult stated that his future would likely be spent playing short-form cricket within a myriad of domestic competitions.

At present, the Rotorua-born swing merchant has represented white-ball franchises at both home and abroad, pulling on the pyjamas for a quintet of IPL outfits, as well as North Districts.

Within a statement sent from the desks of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Boult expressed that after more than a decade with the fern over his heart, his desires now lay elsewhere.

"Playing cricket for my country was a childhood dream and I'm so proud of everything I've been able to achieve with the Black Caps over the past 12 years," Boult said.

"Ultimately this decision is about my wife Gert and our three young boys.

"Family has always been the biggest motivator for me and I feel comfortable with putting it first and preparing ourselves for life after cricket.

"As a fast bowler I know I have a limited career span, and I feel the time is right to move into this next phase."

Chairperson David White also used the opportunity to pay thanks to Boult for his sterling service to New Zealand cricket during its rapid ascension away from irrelevance.

Though Boult's recently cleared calendar sees him become a viable marquee option to Big Bash League (BBL) franchises, it remains to be seen whether the seasoned summer will bring his bag of tricks across the ditch.

Since his inaugural appearance in Adelaide, Boult has represented his nation admirably in a further 77 Tests, with his peak coming during New Zealand's World Test Championship victory in Southampton last June.

In addition to 317 Test scalps claimed after sending more than 17,000 deliveries down the wicket, the proud Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Te Rangi man picked up the white-ball for 93 ODIs and 44 T20 internationals.
