Australia and Sri Lanka have confirmed their teams for the first Test of the tour, with Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Australia had two questions over the final make up of their team to tackle Sri Lanka, with Travis Head's fitness and Nathan Lyon's spin partner the dillemas.

Head has been passed fit however, meaning there will be no need for Glenn Maxwell.

Meanwhile, Mitch Swepson will keep his spot in the team despite averaging north of 100 with the ball in Pakistan, with Jon Holland suffering a finger injury and Ashton Agar a side strain, leaving them both out of action.

Josh Hazlewood has also been left out for Mitchell Starc.

"We would have had a bat as well. Bit of wind around, so hopefully it swings," Australian captain Pat Cummins said.

"We managed to find 11 players. Travis Head is straight in."

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are playing three spinners and just one quick bowler in the clash.

"We know it's going to behave differently in Day 3, 4 and 5, so we want to get the maximum advantage by batting first," Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne said.
