Sydney Test hero Usman Khawaja has been confirmed to feature for Australia in Friday's fifth and final Ashes Test, replacing opener Marcus Harris in the XI.

Khawaja's stunning pair of centuries, compounded with Harris' poor run of form this summer, has seen the Pakistan-born batsman retain his place in Australia's batting order for the Hobart Test.

The 35-year-old amassed scores of 137 and 101* at the SCG in his return to the Australia setup, placing pressure on both Harris and selectors ahead of this week's Ashes finale.

With his form too strong to ignore, Australian captain Patrick Cummins revealed on Thursday that Khawaja will pair with David Warner at the top of Justin Langer's XI.

No.5 batsman Travis Head will return to the lineup after missing the Sydney Test due to contracting COVID-19, with the South Australian's summer also prompting tough decisions for selectors.

Cummins revealed that Australia are yet to decide on their final bowling strikeforce for the Test at Bellerive Oval, with both Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc placed under some level of doubt.

Boland is currently battling a rib injury and has required painkillers to aid his chances of featuring in the fifth Test, while Starc could be rested.

A last-minute call is set to be made on Boland, who has skyrocketed into stardom across the course of his maiden two Tests.

West Australian Jhhye Richardson firms as the reinforcement in waiting should either Boland or Starc not be selected.
