Reports emerging out of England suggest that Australian captain Michael Clarke will retire at the end of the series.

It is understood that Clarke told his teammates this morning before the start of play at Trent Bridge.

The news comes after several days of Clarke declaring that he had no intention of retiring.

Clarke has averaged just 16.71 this Ashes series and has been under immense pressure.

However, his poor form started well before the current series, as he has averaged just 28.16 in his last 30 Test innings.
