Tasmanian off-spinner Xavier Doherty has announced his retirement from first-class and one-day cricket.
Doherty, who was omitted from Tasmania's Sheffield Shield side for the final round of the season, announced his decision on Wednesday afternoon.
"I have absolutely loved being a Tasmanian cricketer and I sometimes have to pinch myself when I think about the opportunities and highlights I have had throughout my career," Doherty said.
Doherty made his Test debut in Brisbane during the 2010 Ashes series and played four Tests in the Baggy Green.
Doherty's skill with the white ball is where he made a name for himself, representing Australia in 60 one-day-internationals, taking 55 wickets with best figures of 4/28 against Sri Lanka in 2011.
"Receiving my cap for Tasmania as a young 19-year-old was pretty special and to go on to be called up for Australia in 2010 and claim that Baggy Green was a surreal feeling," he added.
"I feel very grateful to have been part of such a successful, exciting and important era for Tasmanian cricket and I hope to be able to continue to watch more success in the future."
The 36-year-old made his first class debut in the 2001/02 season.
