Michael Di Venuto will finish up as Darren Lehmann’s right-hand man before next month’s World Twenty20, with the batting coach set to become the latest Australian mentor to cross battlelines and head to English cricket.

The highly respected Di Venuto credited by Steven Smith as the major influence behind his astonishing transformation into a batting superstar has handed in his resignation into Cricket Australia so that he can take on a head coaching position elsewhere.

On Monday Di Venuto was unveiled as Surrey coach in the English County competition, meaning he will join Jason Gillespie and Trevor Bayliss as part of the Australian intellectual talent drain to the UK which is fostering the Old Enemy’s best cricketers.
