The Adelaide Strikers are understood to have swooped on unsigned ex-Renegades spinner Cameron Boyce for BBL|12.
Boyce was not offered a contract beyond the most recent tournament, ending a four-year stint with the Victorian franchise despite a heroic ending to his time with the Renegades.
The 32-year-old notched up a double hat-trick performance and the figures of 5/21 in his last match in red, even entering the match aware his time with Melbourne would not be extended for the following season.
"It's the highs and lows of T20 cricket isn't it," Boyce said after the loss to the Sydney Thunder.
"In hindsight, it's a pretty amazing achievement to say I've got a double hat-trick at the MCG, it's something that I'll look back at for a long time, but I'd trade it all in for a win for the boys."
The Queensland-born leg-spinner has claimed 89 wickets from 78 BBL innings, ranking eighth overall in the competition's history.
With his services unwanted at Melbourne, Boyce is reportedly set to link up with the Strikers in a return to South Australia, according to CODE Sports' Daniel Cherny.
Boyce was a member of Adelaide's squad for the 2012/13 season, managing just the sole campaign in SA before joining the Hobart Hurricanes.
The Strikers will look to pair Joyce and international star Rashid Khan this year, with the latter likely to be retained through the newly-implemented BBL Draft.
Adelaide announced the departure of all-rounder Jon Wells at the conclusion of BBL|11, with the Tasmania veteran yet to find a new home.
The Strikers will begin their BBL|12 campaign against Sydney Sixers on Wednesday, December 14 at Adelaide Oval.
