The Mets and Yankees might be venturing outside the diamond in search of a hidden gem.

The Mets held a private workout last weekend for former cricket star Kieran Powell, who is trying to bring his talents to professional baseball. The Yankees attended a group workout for Powell on Wednesday.

After a contract dispute with his West Indies cricket squad in July, the 25-year-old abruptly decided on a career move. His agent sent film to major league teams, according to The Wall Street Journal, and Powell worked out with two Dodgers players for eight weeks before going to the IMG Academy to further hone his skills.

“I thought this was a great opportunity I couldn’t pass up. To play international cricket and also have the chance to play Major League Baseball is what dreams are made of. It’s an amazing story. We talked about it and decided to let’s go full on with it,” Powell told Examiner.com.
