National selectors have confirmed the appointment of Alyssa Healy as the new vice-captain of the national women's team across all formats.

The appointment comes following the retirement of former vice-captain Rachel Haynes last month, seeing Healy return to the position she has previously held most recently in 2021.

With current captain Meg Lanning on an indefinite break from the squad due to personal reasons, there's a chance Healy could quickly assume the interim captaincy of the squad for a summer consisting of a T20 series in India, a home ODI and T20 series against Pakistan and the T20 World Cup in South Africa, taking place in February.

“It's a privilege to have been offered the vice-captaincy of any Australian team, let alone one that's tasted as much success as this one,” Healy said, per cricket.com.au.

“Rach (Haynes) played a key role in supporting Meg (Lanning) as well as driving the values and culture of the team. While she leaves big shoes to fill, I'm looking forward to helping lead this side.

“It's a really exciting time to be involved with this team; we've seen personnel changes as well as the emergence of incredible young talent, and with a T20 World Cup and away Ashes around the corner, I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career.”

National team selector and Head of Performance Shawn Flegler expressed his confidence in Healy's appointment to the role.

“We're delighted that Alyssa has agreed to take on the role of vice-captain and look forward to the contribution she can make in tandem with Meg,” Flegler said.

“Alyssa is an outstanding leader on and off the field and brings a wealth of experience to the role.”

While the T20 Tour of India is confirmed to take place in December, a current schedule is yet to be confirmed.
