Western Australian Adam Voges looks poised to make his Test debut against the West Indies in Windsor Park tonight.
Voges had a long conversation with selector Mark Waugh and coach Darren Lehmann at Australia’s final training session, before sharing a warm handshake with the pair.
Voges later shared a warm embrace with fellow West Australian Shaun Marsh.
The batsman has been in fine form of late, producing the fourth best Sheffield Shield season in history last summer. Voges scored 1,358 runs at an average of 104.46 with six centuries and top score of 249.
The 35-year-old is just the 16th Australian to debut after his 35th birthday.
Voges comes into the side in place of veteran opener Chris Rogers, who was ruled out due to concussion.
Rogers was hit on the helmet during a net session on Sunday. He was later diagnosed as having suffered a mild concussion after displaying symptoms of dizzyness and a headache.
Team Doctor Peter Bruckner said it was the correct decision under Cricket Australia’s new concussion policy.
“This is a black and white rule now. If someone is concussed, they don't play,” Bruckner said.
"He was disappointed obviously. Obviously nobody wants to miss a Test match and he was very disappointed.
"He tried to talk me around, as they do.
"I've spoken to the players and explained the decision to them and said that's the way we operate, that's our policy and it won't be any different no matter who the player is."
The first Test starts at midnight on June 4, Australian Eastern Standard Time.
