Former Australian cricketer, Brad Hodge, has penned an apology after receiving backlash for comments made on Virat Kohli.

While appearing on Game Day with Neroli Meadows, Hodge suggested that Kohli did not partake in the final test match between India and Australia, so he would be fit to play in the IPL.

"You hope as a sportsmen he is seriously injured." said Hodge.

Who then followed up that statement by explaining, "You think that your captain would get out there and get amongst it".

Hodge, who is head coach of IPL team Gujarat Lions, was then heavily scrutinised for his comments. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined in, going into bat for his former teammate.

The response has led Hodge to pen an apology, which he posted on Twitter this morning. In it he apologises to Kohli and to Indian cricket, stating, "I am deeply apologetic to the country which has brought me so much joy,".

Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore will take the field for the IPL opener in a week's time. Whether the controversial batsmen will play is yet to be known. The same goes for the reception to Brad Hodge, who will coach his Gujarat Lions just a couple of days later.
