The 2021-22 Big Bash League is here, with Australia's best domestic cricketers, and a host of international stars getting ready for Australia's T20 cricket extravaganza.
The Big Bash League will get underway on Sunday, December 5 at 7:35pm (AEDT), with the Sydney Sixers to play the Melbourne Stars in the opening match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Matches will continue every night through December and January.
What is the Big Bash League?
The Big Bash League is a franchise-based T20 cricket competition held in Australia each summer.
Eight teams (one from each capital city of a state, as well as two from Melbourne and Sydney) play during the season, which runs through December and January.
Unlike the traditional Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup, this competition is not run with State-based teams.
Who are the teams?
The eight teams to participate are the Brisbane Heat, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes.
How does the season work?
The season will see a full home-and-away season played, meaning each team plays each other team twice during the regular season - 14 games per team.
At the end of the season, the top five teams will qualify for the finals, which is a five-match format to determine the eventual champions.
The Sydney Sixers took out last season's title and enter the 2021-22 season as defending champions, and more importantly, favourites to go back-to-back.

How to watch the Big Bash League on TV in Australia
Two channels carry the broadcasting rights for the Big Bash League, being Fox Sports and Channel 7.
Fox Sports broadcast every game of the season, predominantly through their Fox Cricket Channel - 501 on Foxtel. You will need a Foxtel subscription to tune in.
Channel 7 also carry a vast majority of games on free-to-air TV.
