Hobart Hurricanes paceman Riley Meredith has signed a new contract extension with the Big Bash franchise, retaining his services in purple until the end of BBL|14.

The 25-year-old has been a key piece of the Tasmanian club's bowling attack across 45 matches with the Hurricanes, recording 59 wickets.

A stellar past few seasons have seen Meredith emerge on the international stage, featuring in five T20Is and a single ODI appearance last year for Australia.

The Hobart local was also signed to IPL franchise Punjab Kings in 2021 for $1.4 million, before being swooped on by the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming edition of the domestic T20 competition.

Now set to extend his stay in Tasmania with the Hurricanes, Meredith expressed his delight in inking a new deal with Hobart until 2025.

“It’s great to have some certainty about where I’m going to be playing my cricket over the next few years,” Meredith said.

“These past 12 months or so has been a little frustrating for me with the various niggles I’ve had, but the staff in Tassie have been great in supporting me to get back playing my best cricket as soon as possible.

“It’s great to see so many of the guys who have been with us for several years now also signing on, and I’m confident that together, when we play our best cricket we will be hard to beat.”

Meredith took 16 wickets at 17.87 from his 11 appearances in BBL|11, the second most among Hurricanes players.

The fast bowler's signature adds to a recent re-signing spree for Hobart, who have also locked away Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Ben McDermott, Joel Paris, D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade for BBL|12.
