Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will miss the opening three one-day internationals against Australia due to family reasons.

The Board for Cricket Control in India confirmed the news on Thursday, with Dhawan set to spend time with his wife who is unwell and who is based in Melbourne.

Dhawan lives with his wife in Melbourne when he is not on tour with the national side.

The opener's absence is a huge blow to India, with Dhawan averaging 67.6 runs during the recent Champions Trophy.
