Debutante Jess Jonassen has helped the Southern Stars fight back on day one to reach 8-268 at stumps against England.

Openers Villani (33) and Bolton (36) got Australia got off to a solid start before a middle order collapse shortly after lunch in which they lost 4-29 to be 5-99 after 39 overs.

The in-form trio of Elysse Perry (5), Meg Lanning (3) and Alex Blackwell (7) all failed to reach double figures.

Anya Shrubsole was on fire for the hosts claiming the first four wickets of the match.

Jonassen then led a spirited fight back, who along with Alyssa Healy built a 77 run partnership to get Australia back into a competitive position.

However, the Stars then suffered another mini collapse, with Healy (39), Coyte (3) and Schutt (11) all falling in quick succession, before Jonassen and Beans shared a 62 run unbeaten stand before stumps to reach 8-268.

Jonassen is 95 not out and Beams is unbeaten on 24 at stumps.
