Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup on home soil after a million-to-one golfing injury left him with a lacerated hand.

Inglis, 27, was golfing in the lead-up to Australia's World Cup defence, however, before the final tee, the keeper was left nursing the ailment after his club split mid-swing.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, The English-born custodian has been left nursing split webbing and a cut to his finger.

With Matthew Wade's name already within Andrew McDonald's squad, Australia has a viable backup option already in camp. Yet, without the prospect of an understudy, a choice to roll the dice is now before the host nation.

Should a keeper be called in to replace Inglis, options such as Alex Carey and Ben McDermott remain available to McDonald.

If the call to beef up the order is opted for, in-form all-rounder Cameron Green is a live chance to ply his wares before adoring crowds.

Though spruiking a bowling attack consisting of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis, tested seamer Nathan Ellis' number may well be called.

Australia's trophy defence is set to commence on Saturday, October 22 at the Sydney Cricket Ground when they face off against 2021 finalists New Zealand.
