Australia has dropped an incredible selection bombshell, recalling gloveman Tim Paine for the first two Tests.

Also in Australia's 13-man squad for the opening two matches are veteran Shaun Marsh, South Australian quick Chadd Sayers and West Australian Cameron Bancroft. Usman Khawaja also reclaims his spot in the side, while Matt Renshaw, Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell have all been dropped from the squad.

Australia Squad: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird, Chadd Sayers.

Paine has not played Test cricket for seven years and incredible has not scored a Sheffield Shield century since 2006. He played four Test matches a s fill in for Brad Haddin in 2010, before a succession of finger injuries derailed his international career.

Meanwhile Bancroft, 24, has been in brilliant form this Shield season, culminating an an unbeaten 228 against SA this week.

"Cameron has been a player of interest to us for some time now, having been unlucky to miss out on the Test tour to Bangladesh that was cancelled in 2015," National Selector Trevor Hohns said.

"He is a very talented and tough cricketer who shows a good temperament for Test cricket.

"He has thoroughly earned and deserves his call-up following some outstanding performances in the early rounds of the JLT Sheffield Shield competition this season."

The first Test begins at the Gabba in Brisbane on November 23.
