Tasmania Tigers coach Dan Marsh has been sensationally sacked just a year after signing a two-year contact extension.

Marsh took over coaching duties from Tim Coyle at the start of the 2013-14 Sheffield Shield season.

Cricket Tasmania Chairman Andrew Gaggin said a bevy of poor results was the reason behind the decision.

Tasmania are currently last on the Shield table, with just 14.5 points.

"The players are the ones who perform on the field, but the Head Coach has ultimate responsibility for results and performance," Gaggin said.

"On behalf of the Cricket Tasmania Board, management, staff, members and fans generally I would like to thank Dan for his period as coach and service to Tasmanian cricket."

Marsh played 139 first-class matches and 126 one-day matches for Tasmania between 1996 and 2010. The all-rounder scored 7,524 Shield runs at an average of 37.80 and took 168 wickets at an average of 48.96.
