Australian coach Darren Lehmann has hit back at former player and Fox Sports Australia contributor Brett Geeves, telling Adelaide radio station FIVEaa that he doesn't listen to him because he "wasn't a good player."

Geeves wrote an article and said Lehmann had sent "mixed messages" to the side after saying Matt Renshaw's place in the Australian side for the upcoming tour of India wasn't guaranteed despite his impressive 184 in the win over Pakistan in Sydney.

If asked whether he had a response to that piece Lehmann simply said, “no, I don’t listen Brett Geeves who wasn’t a very good player."

Lehmann went on to say it would be tough to drop Renshaw for the four-Test series, but once again failed to guarantee his spot for the tour.

“We’ve got to see what the wickets are like,” he said.

“You think he would play, but again, until we know the squad and see the conditions and who we’re up against and where we’re playing -- all those sorts of things come into it.

“They’re the big questions…

“But he was fantastic in Sydney and great for us, the 20 year old. It was great to see and great to watch and probably should just be praising the innings rather than worrying about other things.”
