The inaugural Major League Cricket tournament is set to get underway in July 2023 at Grand Prairie Stadium, outside of Dallas, Texas.

The tournament will run for 18 days from July 13-30.

Having had its fair share of delays in revamping, the stadium is set to increase its capacity from 7200 seats to 15,000, with the final project to be completed by Spring.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo USA correspondent Peter Della Penna, MLC Tournament Director Justin Geale said it's a major step in transcending the sport to the nation.

"Next summer, the eyes of world cricket will be on the launch of Major League Cricket, with the stars of the game competing over three weeks of fast-paced T20 action," he said.

"The launch of MCL will transform American cricket and provide one of the best platforms in the sport for the world's most elite players to showcase their skills while also fast-tracking the development of domestic talent to feature in the league."

Initially, the renovation was set to finish this year after the MLC granted a lease for the Grand Prairie facility in 2020, only for numerous delays to occur.

With the date of next year's tournament set, organisers believe it is perfect timing as it won't clash with other tournaments including the CPL and The Hundred.

In its pursuit to create a world-class facility, MLC organisers hired Australian curator Dave Agnew.

Agnew, who has had numerous experiences as head curator at the CPL and the Global T20 Canada, will observe the development of the stadium, plus give assistance in the MLC's other facilities currently in progress.

Six franchises will take part, with the tournament to be run as a single round-robin format with 15 matches to be played before four playoff matches.

With Dallas already one of six, the other franchises are in New York City, Seattle, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

According to Della Penna, tournament organisers are firming to start games at night due to the hot weather Texas presents, therefore allowing more people to attend.

Although the Grand Prairie Stadium is the sole event to be used in next July's tournament, the MLC are strongly considering using North Carolina's Church Street Park, although there isn't a franchise for the state.

Generating strong spectator approval, the stadium hosted the 2018 Americas Regional T20 World Cup Qualifier, and using it for the MLC will considerably alleviate the pressure of the Grand Prairie Stadium wicket.
