Marcus Stoinis has been declared fit for the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament in the UK.
The all-rounder injured his shoulder in a pre-game warm-up for Punjab in the IPL. He flew home following the injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.
There were doubts as to whether Stoinis would be ready for the Champions Trophy, which begins in early June. Some of the Australians will begin to make their way to the UK as early as tonight.
The Australian support staff declared Stoinis fit yesterday, with a Cricket Australia spokesperson stating, "he bowled today and medical staff were happy with his progress".
The Victorian Bushranger was thrust into the national spotlight last year when he almost single-handedly beat New Zealand in an ODI.
In that game he took 3/49 with the ball, before hitting an incredible 146 off just 161 balls. Australia would end up falling six runs short of New Zealand's total, however, Stoinis' performance was still marvelled over.
Steve Smith will be hoping that the 27-year old can emulate that performance next month. His ability to be effective with both the bat and the ball could be integral to their campaign, thus why Cricket Australia were sweating on his fitness.
