The Big Bash League is set for another shapeshift ahead of the summer, with both Men's and Women's competitions gaming the introduction of DRS, while the Bash Boost point and X-Factor substitution has been scrapped.

In what is sure to be welcome news for Australian cricket fans, a decision review system will be implemented for every BBL match and 24 WBBL matches for the respective upcoming tournaments.

Each side will be given one unsuccessful review as the fielding team, with captains given 15 seconds to alert the umpire of their decision to review.

Difficulties with resources across recent COVID-impacted seasons have placed a delay on the introduction of DRS, with the league now able to implement the technology for the 2022-23 summer.

"The league is delighted to introduce DRS … in line with the very best cricket competitions in the world," BBL boss Alistair Dobson said, via Cricket.com.au.

"Implementing DRS has been a challenging task for the BBL, which is the most logistically complex T20 league in the world.

"That, plus the impact of the pandemic on travel and movement, have meant the technology has not been possible to introduce until this season."

35 matches of the BBL|08 season won't have access to DRS given some limitations for broadcasters, however Cricket Australia will continue to work toward further DRS coverage for the competition in the coming years.

The WBBL will see the introduction of the Power Surge, which was recently introduced to the Men's competition.

A decision to scrap the Bash Boost point and X-Factor substitute has been confirmed from this summer however.

The changes will mean lineups for matches will revert to naming 11 players, a 12th player and substitute fielders.

Clubs will also return to being awarded two points for a win, none for a loss, and one for a tie.

The upcoming BBL season will also see the introduction of an innings clock, with the fielding team needing to begin the 20th over of the innings within 79 minutes of the innings' commencement.

Should a club surpass the required time, they will be limited to four fielders outside the field restriction instead of five for the rest of the innings.
