Prior to the 2016/17 domestic season, Glenn Maxwell asked Cricket Victoria for a release from his contract in a bid to join New South Wales and ignite his international career.
That bid was denied by the Victorians.
Almost 12 months on, Maxwell, who has since represented Australia in all three forms of the game, has decided that he will not head north of the Murray River and instead will stay put in the 'Big V'.
Cricket NSW CEO Andrew Jones confirmed Maxwell wouldn't be joining the Blues in 2017/18.
“We’d never planned it. We were pleased to learn that he was thinking of coming to NSW last year,” Jones said.
“’OK’ and then he wasn’t; ‘OK’. And the same this year.
“We asked the question. He’s not going to come, OK.”
Matthew Wade's return to Tasmania might have had an impact on Maxwell's decision, following his now infamous comments on batting below the Australian wicket-keeper in the state side.
Maxwell labelled the thought of it as "painful", despite now playing, and batter higher than Wade in the Australian set-up.
Maxwell is currently leading Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, where he scored 44 overnight to beat Kolkata Knight Riders, which features fellow Australian Chris Lynn - who smashed 84 off 52 balls.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Maxwell will link up with the Australian ODI side in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy in England.
