Glenn Maxwell certainly put on a big show during the third Test in Ranchi and vice-captain David Warner believes there is a lot more where that came from.

Maxwell, who scored his maiden Test ton following his recall to the Test team, will now look to emulate Warner, who has transformed his game after shooting to stardom following his form in the shorter formats.

"For Maxi it's about just doing the basics right,” Warner said yesterday.

“Keep doing what he does best at training.

"The hundred he scored was fantastic and phenomenal and a great boost for him. To come out here and fight like he did and bat time, it should say to him he can play this format."

Following his performance in the third Test, Maxwell became just the second Australian (after Shane Watson) and 11th batsman all time to score a century in all three formats.

Warner praised Maxwell's ability to adapt to different situations and hopes he can continue to find the right formula.

"I think you look at the Twenty20 in Sri Lanka (last year), when he scored the 100 there, I think he's got it in his head that he knows he's got the capacity to do that, to take games away from teams.

Australia's obsession with all-rounders means if Maxwell wants to stay at no.6, not only will he have to continue to churn out runs in the long format but also continue to work at his crafty off-spinners, something Maxwell knows he must keep improving on.

"If I'm going to be playing the role that I played this Test at No.6 I have to be giving something else in the team," Maxwell said.

"You can't get by being a fielder and a batsman, you need the extra string to your bow when you're at No.6."

"I'll try and keep both sides of my game as much as I can."

Consistency has and always will be the key for Maxwell and he knows that now more than ever.

"If I can keep producing long innings ... batting long periods of time and building partnerships with other players, that’s going to go a long way to firstly holding my spot but secondly winning games for Australia."

"That’s always been the biggest thing the coaches, selectors have always wanted is consistency."

"Hopefully it just ticks something inside that I can continue to be consistent."
