Former England captain Michael Vaughan has selected his greatest Ashes XI for a Test match in Australian conditions.

There are some expected names in the star studded side, however, also a big shock that even Australians would admit is a bit of a surprise. Our hero of the 2013/14 Ashes series; Mitchell Johnson.

Johnson bowled his way to Ashes glory and into the hearts of Australian sports fans with a simply astounding display of fast bowling as Australia won 5-0 four years ago.

Johnson took 37 wickets at an average of just 13 during the whitewash of England in 2013/14.

However, he was often maligned earlier in his career due to his inconsistency, making his selection a by an England great as a bit of a surprise.

“I’ve picked my team to play in Australian conditions because that’s where England are going to play,” Vaughan said on his BBC5Live podcast.

“So I’ve picked — surprisingly — Mitchell Johnson purely for what he delivered last time.

“I’ve not seen anyone bowl as quick as that in my time. And also a left-arm option, I think it compliments my team.

“That was ferocious.”

Vaughan's team featured eight Australians and just three Englishman.
