Ryan Harris has thrown his support behind Mitchell Starc for the First Test at the Gabba.

Speaking on SEN SA Breakfast, the man they call 'Rhino' also said he was "disappointed" in Warne's comments.

When asked if Jhye Richardson was a chance to play at the GABBA next Wednesday, Harris responded in emphatic fashion.

"I don't know what 'Starcy' has done to 'Warnie' but i'm backing him in," Harris said.

"I thought he bowled OK at the World Cup... he did his job. The thing for me, is if Mitchell Starc starts swinging the ball, albeit a white one, it's a good sign, and I think he did that in just about every game he played in the World Cup"

"Don't get me wrong, Jhye Richardson is bowling very well. He had a game against Queensland here two weeks ago and the boys said he bowled very quickly and swung the ball nicely."

"[But] I like Mitchell Starc for that variation, the left arm and we all know... I don't think he's far away, if Mitchell Starc's swinging the ball, it means he's getting a good position with his wrist and that generally allows you to put the ball consistently in the right spot,."

After calmly praising both bowlers, the fast bowling great then went on the attack. Switching gears, Harris turned the heat on Warne towards the end of his comments.

"So I'd be backing him (Starc) in for the first test, especially at the GABBA, he loves the GABBA, but again.. not sure what he's done to 'Warnie', I'm a bit disappointed in that," he said.

"I'm not a big fan of coming out and slaying in the media, I hope that 'Warnie' has had a phone call to 'Starcy' and explained what he's talking about."

In what is becoming a summer ritual, Warne again took aim at Starc earlier in the week. The greatest wicket-taker in the history of Australian cricket said Starc was "not bowling well enough."

"He (Starc) needs to find a bit of rhythm and some form... He had a really poor World Cup. He's just not bowling well enough. It's too important at the GABBA, I'm all for Jhye Richardson." Warne said.

Despite the seemingly personal vendetta, Warne isn't alone in wanting new blood. Speaking to SEN WA, Perth Scorchers fast bowler Andrew Tye said Richardson should be picked for the First Test.

Jhye Richardson

"I said last week that Jhye's name is already on the team sheet. With the way that he's been bowling and his form coming in... it's going to be really stiff to leave him out. I reckon he's in," Tye said.

The 25-year-old has taken 23 wickets in just four Sheffield Shield matches this summer. His blistering form has prompted calls for him to be selected ahead of Starc for the Fist Test.

With the Ashes just under a week away, Australia's selectors face a very tough job.
