New South Wales batsman Nic Maddinson will make his return to cricket next week, following his decision to step away from the game earlier this month.

Maddinson announced a fortnight ago he was taking an indefinite break from cricket due to personal reasons.

The 25-year-old will return to the field with NSW's Futures League team against Western Australian on Monday.

He will then be available for selection for the Blues' next Shield clash against against Tasmania, beginning on February 25.

Maddinson has had an indifferent summer, picked in Australia's Test side, then scoring just 27 runs in four innings, before being axed from the side.

He then played in the Sydney Sixes' losing BBL grand final side against the Perth Scorchers in January.
