Victorian captain Matthew Wade say fast bowler James Pattinson is not far away from a return to Test cricket.

Pattinson took 14 wickets at an average of 19.42 during the Matador Cup as the 25-year-old looks to reclaim his Test spot.

“His form in the Matador Cup was awesome. He did exactly what you want any fast bowler to do, come on and take wickets when you needed them,” Wade said.

“They were slow wickets and he was still getting the ball through really comfortably.

“He’ll be back in the Test team pretty soon, I’m pretty certain of that.”

Pattinson has played 13 Test matches, averaging 27.07 with the ball, but an injury-ravaged career to date has meant he has not featured in the national squad since march 2014.
